Test explanation

Three concepts of freedom:

The individual freedom of a randomly picked person can be understood:

  • Positively: actual access to as many benefits as possible.
  • Negatively: having the least amount of constraints inflicted upon you.
  • Quantitatively: having as many available options to your disposal (not necessarily all of which are realized, as some might even be mutually contradictory).

The survey seeks to answer the following questions:

1. Which is the intuitive understanding of “freedom”? What does a regular person without a philosophical background understand by “freedom”?

2. Which concept of freedom is best correlated with personal preference?

3. Which concept of freedom is best correlated with the idea of common good?

4. Do people with different political views have different understanding of “freedom”? Is it true that left leaning individuals see freedom in the positive sense while right leaning individuals in the negative sense?
